Yeah, a long overdue update. I finally have an afternoon where I don’t have to be somewhere or out doing something, so I’m taking advantage of it to update you chumps with what I am doing.
I left out of Brian’s place just north of Salt Lake City in Layton, UT around 9:30am last Friday. Taking it easy, enjoying the road. The bike was running well, zipping along the interstate at 80-85 for the most part. Wyoming quickly came and went. I wanted to pull off to get a picture of the sign, but I missed it due to the sign being at the end of an on ramp for the weigh station. Ah well.
Rode the bike into the lab yesterday, and I ended up beating Brian home, so I went for a ride around sunset. I saw this view and had to get a shot. Sorry the panoramic ended up not looking so hot, but hey, I rather liked the view. I have some updates from the weekend, but I am still working on that post, so I’ll have it here soon. Getting back on the road on Friday, wheee!
Didn’t do a lot today, just manned the couch. Lucy and Sandy (Lucy is on the right) are taking advantage of the lazy day by camping out on the back of Brian’s couch. Brian had a birthday yesterday, and we all went out to Sizzler tonight to celebrate. I had a big bowl of ice cream. I hadn’t been to a Sizzler in years, but, as it was then, it was the best part of the whole deal. We spent a while at his folk’s place watching a movie and eating cake.
Wet and overcast here still. They say it will clear up middle of the week, in time for me to head out again. I’d like some rain, but not the whole way.
Here’s the fruits of today’s work. I’ve built an adapter board (the silver thing inside the mainboard cover door, on the right bottom of the picture) that allows a new style display to work on an old style laser. The old style displays are hard to come by, and this will allow for easier replacement of that design. I found two pins shorted on my board. Apparently, the non-conductive solder flux became conductive. Wack.
The weekend is here. I don’t have any plans really, I might get on the bike tomorrow or Sunday and go off on my own and explore a bit. I’m enjoying being out here, but I am rather looking forward to moving on down the road a ways.
Rainy here today. Supposedly more rain to come this weekend. Work is proceeding well, despite my string of mess ups and failure to make things work first time around today. I liked the grey day today, however, cooled things off. Picture was taken from the laser shop, looking west. The mountains are on the other side of the Great Salt Lake somewhere. They didn’t have that much snow yesterday.
