The evil temptress Mel has subtly convinced me to get in on this ‘Photo-a-Day’ scam.
And I only say that because I started this blog as a way to take more pictures and post them but I’ve quit doing that. And, seeing as Mel has gotten busy and is actually posting photos in hers, I figured I should really do something.
So, here is the first:
My buddy Steve down in Albuquerque made this ‘dirt puck’ for his V-Strom and made me one too to test out, and requested that I take some photos of it. So, I thought I would do it up right, and went out seeking adventure.
I was trying to figure out a good place to go for some good shots. Up in the Jemez? Nah, too many roads are still closed or too muddy to be fun. Up on the ski hill? Maybe. Then it came to me, I would go down into Los Alamos Canyon, where the ice skating rink is. I had found a great spot in here while riding my dirt bike last year here.
Getting the V-Strom up to the Quemazon Canyon overlook was a tad more scary than I hard remembered. The XT600, with its knobby tires, long suspension, and 350 pounds, had scrambled up like a champ. The V-Strom, with its much smoother tires and 550 pounds, was a bit more of a challenge. It is nice and torquey at low RPM though, but I did pull the front tire off the ground on the climb. Wheee! Coming back down was exciting. Need more practice.
I found the stream pictured above down in the bottom of the canyon just down from the ice skating rink. Very pretty.
I topped it all off with some shots up on the ski hill before heading home.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy, and I’ll try my best to stay on top of this photo thing.
