* WPG2 Plugin Not Validated *Old and New

I’m out to lunch on some things. For instance, new vs old. Take a look at the two scopes in the pictures above. For all practical purposes, they do the same thing. The old one, though, has a certain class that a new digital scope can never hope to achieve. The display curve is sharp, clean, smooth. The new digital one, by comparison, is blocky. But, only with the new one can you pause the wave form, store it to memory, even download it for further analysis.

So, is it worth it to upgrade to new things? Especially when the old one works so well? Is it worth giving up intimately knowing the controls, the gotchas, the quirks of the old one so readily to embrace that of the new?

Sometimes I feel like my life is a constant struggle with this. I have an old Mustang. And a new pickup. Why do I feel I need both? I have an entire shed of stuff that could easily be replaced by a single laptop. Why?

I’ve been doing some soul searching lately, and I think it is time for me to embrace more of the new. As elegant and beautiful the old may be, and always will be, there comes a time when you need to learn to seek out the beauty developing around you, and move on, and let the past be.

Is it the fate of all things to become the fodder of wanton destruction and eventually left to silently rust under a blaring sun?

The evil temptress Mel has subtly convinced me to get in on this ‘Photo-a-Day’ scam.

And I only say that because I started this blog as a way to take more pictures and post them but I’ve quit doing that. And, seeing as Mel has gotten busy and is actually posting photos in hers, I figured I should really do something.

So, here is the first:

My buddy Steve down in Albuquerque made this ‘dirt puck’ for his V-Strom and made me one too to test out, and requested that I take some photos of it. So, I thought I would do it up right, and went out seeking adventure.

I was trying to figure out a good place to go for some good shots. Up in the Jemez? Nah, too many roads are still closed or too muddy to be fun. Up on the ski hill? Maybe. Then it came to me, I would go down into Los Alamos Canyon, where the ice skating rink is. I had found a great spot in here while riding my dirt bike last year here.
