I came down to Socorro today to hang out with Chris and just kill some time for a couple of days. Brian is picking me up either Sunday evening or Monday morning in Albuquerque to take me to Salt Lake City for a few days, so I figured I could take off the weekend and just have some fun.

Leaving Albuquerque this morning it was 32 degrees out. Why is this important? I was on my motorcycle. Frosty seat. I made it into Socorro around 9:30 am. Chris and I went to Burger King and discussed what to do for the day. Apparently Chris had been planning to go help his boss, Scott, hang some siding on his new house this afternoon, and I was to go along. We spent probably an hour or so at Scott’s place and hung 4 sheets of siding.

Afterwards, we swung by Lewis’ place. He claimed he owed me $20, and I wasn’t going to argue. Lewis said there was going to be an ES (earth science) department BBQ out at San Lorenzo Canyon starting around 4pm, and we were invited. What the hell, we didn’t have anything going on…

First off, we went up this neat place at the foot of Socorro Peak to take some shots of this hill that for some unknown reason has been scooped out with some sort of heavy machinery. I’ll post some pics later. The new lenses that I bought for cheap on eBay worked out pretty well on the tripod, so I was pretty excited.

We left this area and headed north to Lemitar, and then headed out to San Lorenzo Canyon. We found the BBQ after a lot of driving. They were way in there! Chris and I grabbed some food, and then grabbed the cameras and went whole hog. I ended up taking 221 photos today. I think the best shot I took was the one at the start of this shot. As the sun was going down, the moon came down to the horizon, and I was able to capture this moon shot with some fussing with the camera. I had to turn the exposure waaay down, and turn on spot metering to keep it from washing out. This shot is the end result of about 8 images, 3 of which turned out close to this. Chris, who sold me the camera and upgraded to a Canon Digital Rebel, was impressed with the shot. I was too, considering that the 2x telephoto lens I bought was el cheapo on eBay.

Anyway, give me some feed back on what you think of the photo. As I said, I have 221 other ones, which I need to clean out the fluff and post. Since I’m in Socorro right now, it might a while before they all make it to the server, but I’ll post an update when it happens ;)
