I’ve added a plugin to WordPress here that will cross post whatever I put here over onto LiveJournal. (It’s here in case you were looking for one). So, if you -must- use LiveJournal and you don’t have a paid account where you can syndicate my RSS feed, you can friend cavehamster and have my shiny content appear on your page.

Enjoy!

So, today I rode the bike up the hill to go see a client. Get done there, and turn to go home. I headed toward the truck route, and as I get there, I decided to take West Road down the canyon past the skating rink.

I zipped down through the canyon, enjoying the hairpins, despite the fact that I was in too low of a gear coming out of one (it’s a longish sweeper and whilst I started in in a good gear, I slowed down too much on the output end). Anyway, I come out of the canyon, and decided to take the quasi-legal dirt connector that goes past the big water tank and ties into the ski hill road. I had never gone down it from this direction before.

I putted down the crumbling asphalt, and made my right turn to the rutty road that goes around the water tank fence, avoiding the water filled rut to my right. I turned to the left, and started up a somewhat loose slope, very rutty road. I was down in the bottom of the left rut, and I wanted to get up out of it. I turned the front and aimed it up and onto the center of the double track, and gave it a little juice to get up there. I was partially up when the rear slid back down, which I should have known it was going to.

So, Kija and I went up to Taos this last weekend and hung out with my old college buddy Bill. Bill is house sitting for his parents for the last month. It was a lot of fun.

We got there Friday night, and went out to eat at the Old Blinking Light, which was an interesting place. Good burgers. On the way back home, we stopped at Taos Cow and got some ice cream. Really good stuff. Went back home, watched TV and stayed up late. Saturday we got up around 2pm, and drove up to the Taos Ski Valley area, and took some photos, and had some food at Tim’s Stray Dog.

We headed back to the house, watched more movies, hung out, cooked some burgers (Rafiki, as seen to the right, sure did like the burgers), and had some beers. Sunday morning Kija and I got up way too early and went to Santa Fe for her tennis lesson.

All in all, it was a good weekend, nice to get away once in a while.

So, today, I run up ‘the hill’ into Los Alamos to go get a burger to go at Rotten Ronnies (aka, McDonalds). I took the truck route up, which starts off pretty straight, but ends up with about 8-10 fairly tight turns, with 2 lanes going up, and you gain about 1000 foot of elevation over the 10 miles. Of course, being the moron I am, I had some fun on them at about 80mph. Man, that is sure a rush.

Anyway, I don’t speed in town. Too many cops, and the motto in Los Alamos is ‘no crime too small’, and let me tell ya, yeah. Go get my burger (they look at you odd when you take the drive-thru on a bike), and head back out of town.

I came down the ‘main hill’ route, and took the hard right that joins back up to State 4. As I come rushing onto the main road there at about 70, I see someone coming up behind me from the merge lane, which looks to be a sport bike. There is about a 6 turn biiiig hill that goes down into the valley which is 3 lanes coming up with a solid wall divider between the two going down, so it is a lot of fun to come up at speed, which is what I’m sure homeboy on the bike just did. Anyway, I add some speed, I’m doing 80, and he passes me going a good clip faster. I jump on his tail at the light to the truck route turn off as he came to a red light stop, about 2 cars back from the front. He waves at me, and I nod back.

Today I had an eye doctor appointment. Of course, I didn’t realize this until yesterday when they called and said, “You have an appointment tomorrow”, but hey…

Anyway, I got there about 9:15, got the forms, and filled them out. Sat down, and read a magazine. A while later, one of the technicians or whatever you call the non-doctor staff came out to get me. She put me on some machine to get a rough idea of my needed prescription, and measured my glasses, and then did the air puff thingy. Then I was placed in The Room to wait for the eye doc. However, she told me before leaving, “The doctor is not in yet, and she won’t answer her phone in the mornings, so we have no idea when she will be here, so it might be a bit of a wait”. Alrighty then…

I sat and waited, and the doctor arrived about 10 minutes later. I heard the receptionist lady and another mention my name a few times outside the door; I guess they had lost my file. Yum. The doctor came in, sat down, and went through the “read the lowest line” routine, and then did it again, only this time with the little optical dial thingy. Then she asked some questions, and put the eye dilation drops in, which stung like crazy.
